Virgin Mary Spring

There is a settled belief that the Virgin Mary Water that passes under the Virgin Mary House, which is considered one of the most famous sacred places in the world, is also sacred and healing. The water pours into the pool in the garden and attracts the attention of Christian tourists who are 'pilgrims', visiting from all over the world all year round.

The history

Catholic pilgrims visit it believing that the mother of Jesus, Mary, lived in this house until she was brought to this stone house by the Apostle John and was taken to heaven (Assumption according to Catholic doctrine, Dormition according to Orthodox doctrine).

This holy place was deemed worthy of the visit of various popes and the Blessing of the Patriarchate. The first pilgrimage was made by Pope Leo XIII in 1896 and was most recently visited by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006.

It is thought that the grave of Mary is also in Bülbüldağı.
There is a small Byzantine church in the ruins of the Virgin Mary, which is reached by passing the upper gate of the ancient city of Ephesus. It is believed that Mary, the mother of Jesus, lived and died here. It is considered sacred by Muslims as well as Christians and is visited, healing is sought for the sick, and vows are made.
