Birgi Derviş Ağa Mosque

This mosque, located in Izmir's Ödemiş district, Birgi District, was built by Derviş Ağa in 1074 H. (1663). As it is learned from Evliya Çelebi, there were Derviş Ağa Madrasah with 70 cells, 200 shops, two inns and a bath next to the mosque. There is an inscription on the entrance door. The mosque is made of cut stone and has a square plan and is covered with a central dome with pendentives. The dome with an octagonal drum resting on four pillars is reinforced with corner towers. There is a last congregation place in front of the mosque, which has two columns and is divided into three parts by wall extensions. The last congregation place is covered with an eaves made in the late period. The place of worship is illuminated by two windows on both sides of the entrance door, two on each side on the two side walls, and one on each side of the mihrab. Of these, the lower row windows are rectangular jambs, and the upper row windows are round arched plaster networks. Mihrap is in the form of niches. decorated in century style. The minaret next to the mosque is on a cut stone base, has a round body and a single balcony.
