Hamza Ağa (Yeniceköy) Mosque

This mosque, located in İzmir's Tire district, Yeniceköy district, was built by Hamza Ağa in 1684. Along with the mosque, it is learned from the sources that structures such as madrasah, inn, bath, dervish, primary school and imaret were added. While the place where the mosque is located, Tabak Sinan Neighbourhood is visible from the endowment records, Ahi Tabak Sinan mosque is located on the land where the Yeniceköy mosque is located. The mosque, which was devastated, was demolished by Hamza Ağa and rebuilt from the foundation. The mosque has similar features with the Yeni Mosque and Barefoot Mosques. The mosque underwent a major repair in 1897. There are graves of Hamza Ağa and Kiriçcizade Şerif Ali Ağa, who had the mosque repaired, in the graveyard in the mosque garden. It is understood from the grave inscription that Hamza Ağa passed away three years after he built the mosque. The mosque is Tire's third largest mosque with harem. While the dome sits on a dodecagonal hoop, its contemporaries are supported by external buttresses such as Yeni Cami and Pasha Mosque. It has excellent marble workmanship, especially similar to its pulpit, Barefoot and New mosque examples. In addition to geometric patterns, it is enriched with rumi, palmette and star motifs. On the other hand, the verse and rose decoration are examples of a solemn ornament. The wooden workmanship of the harem door with marble jambs is remarkable.
