Belhomme (Wolf) Mansion (Atatürk Library)

It was built in 1880 by British architect Clark, who built the home of Aliberti House. It is stated that it was built by the English merchant Wolf brothers and later passed into the property of the Xenopolou (Greek) and Belhomme (British) families. The distinctive difference between the front and rear facades of the building is interesting. The active element in the flamboyant façade, where Renaissance architectural features are observed, is the entrance portico, which is accessed by a double-armed staircase and enriched with a triangular pediment and Ionic capital columns. Impressive civil Italian architecture prevails on the back facade, where the patio enriched with brick-jointed natural stone columns and arches is located. It was recently restored by Helene ARMAND, a member of the Belhomme Family and working at UNESCO. The building, which has a flamboyant exterior and magnificent columns at the entrance, was completed in 1997 by the mayor of the time, Prof. Dr. Aysel BAYRAKTAR. Fevzi Çakmak Street, next to İş Bankası, at no 34, the former use of the building was the Water Administration and Main Health Center, while today the building is used as the Bornova Municipality Library (Atatürk Library).
