La Fontaine Mansion (Ege University Ataturk's Principles and Revolution History Application and Research Center)

La Fontaine Mansion is located opposite the St. Mary Magdalene Church, next to the Murat Mansion. The oldest owner of the building that can be observed in the records is James La Fontaine (1881-1933). James La Fontaine was the son of Blanche Magdalene Whittall, grandson of Charlton Whittall who bought the Great House in 1836. With the death of James La Fontaine, who is also the owner of the building where the Ege University Women's Problems Application and Research Center and Ege University Izmir Application and Research Center are located, also known as Kuyulu House, both buildings passed on to his wife Clara Lillian La Fontaine (Keyzer) and their children Rhoda. The mansion was bought from the family in 1941 by Ruby Gladys Whittall (De Zandonati), the nephew of Clara La Fontaine. The mansion was purchased from Ruby Gladys Whittall in 1963 due to the building requirement of Ege University. This Levantine house, which was used as the Department of Construction and Science Affairs of Ege University until 1975, was temporarily allocated to the School of the Blind, Gendarmerie Battalion and Artillery Brigade Commands, and the Institute of Public Health in the following years. In the building, which was re-used by Ege University in 1996, Ege University Institute of Social Sciences and Ege University Atatürk's Principles and Revolution History Presidency between the years of 2001-2009 served as the Dean of the Faculty of Education at Ege University. The mansion serves as Ege University Atatürk's Principles and Revolution History Application and Research Center and Museum after the restoration in 2010.
