Yassıtepe Höyük

It is the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Degree Archaeological Site. Four cultural layers dating to the Bronze Age, Late Neolithic, Chalcolithic and Byzantine Periods were encountered. Yassıtepe Höyük is located in the south of Ege University Hospital within the boundaries of Kazım Dirik District of Bornova District. The residential area is a medium-sized, low-lying mound with a slight elevation, located in the area between Forum Bornova, Manda Stream, Çanakkale Highway and the villas. Villas are built on a part of the mound. Yassıtepe Höyük is one of the surviving mounds located on the Bornova Plain, where Izmir urban culture emerged. With this settlement, a new prehistoric mound in the Bornova Plain, after Bayraklı (Tepekule), Pınarbaşı (Tepebağ), Bornova Anatolian High School (İpeklikuyu) and Yeşilova Höyük, has been added to the cultural inventory of İzmir.
Yassıtepe is located between two streams, one in the northwest and the other in the south. While the stream in the northwest has a current in precipitation, the Manda stream in the south has a continuous current, albeit a little in summer. Due to these streams, it is understood that the south, north and west of the mound were affected by stream floods and its surroundings were drowned in time by alluvium. The settlement between the streams therefore looks like a low and flat hill.
