Kızılçullu Aqueducts

It is known that caravans set up tents where the present NATO building is located in Şirinyer (its date is not known exactly). The Kervan Bridge, which was founded on the Melez Stream in Kızılçullu, was named after these caravans. Today, there are no other remains except for aqueducts. Aqueducts on Melez Stream draw attention when the location, which was known as 'Paradiso' and 'Kızılçullu' in the past and known as Şirinyer today, is first entered from İzmir. These aqueducts , which were built by the Romans and named as 'Akvadük Aqueduct' by ancient historians, regulated the flow of water coming to İzmir during the Roman period, covering 133 BC to 395 AD. Tons of egg whites were used in the construction of these aqueducts built by the Romans in two rows. Thanks to the highly adhesive egg whites, the Kızılçullu Aqueducts can still stand despite living the Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman periods
