Foça Fortress

It is learned from the sources that this castle, located in the district of Foça in İzmir province, was given to the Genoese Manuel Zacharna by the Eastern Roman Emperor Michael Paleologos in 1275. The Genoese also repaired the castle. Although the date of construction of the castle is not certain, it is thought to have been built in the 11th century. The castle, made of cut stone, has a rectangular plan and is supported by rectangular towers at the corners. There are building ruins built in the Byzantine period in the castle.
