İsa Bey Imaret (Ayasuluk Library)

The building, located in İzmir province, Selçuk district, Atatürk Neighbourhood 1051 Street No: 19, is a work from the Seljuk Period. It is thought to have been built together with the Isa Bey Bath in 1365. Built by Aydınoğlu Bey İsa Bey, the imaret has a rectangular plan and measures 8.40 X 3.30 m and covers an area of 110 square meters. The load-bearing walls are 1.00 m thick. Ancient stones were used in the corners of the walls covered with stone and brick. There are two openings in the front facade, one narrow and one wide. The arch above the wide one is destroyed and there is a brick decorated recess on the upper part. There is a narrower opening to the south of this gate. This arched opening can be a window or a second door. The first striking part of the superstructure is the dome pulley made of stone and brick. When you enter through the door, it is understood that the building has two parts. What separates these two sections is the only column in the middle and the arch on both sides. An ancient column base was placed as a cap on the granite column estimated to have been brought from Ephesus. The two symmetrical 3.65 m high arches, opening to the north and south over the column, sit on the north and south niches. The building was restored in 1965 and 1990 and now functions as the AYASULUK LIBRARY.
