Ahmet Piriştina City Archive and Museum (APIKAM)

The building where the museum is located served as a fire station from 1932 until the end of 2001. Today, it was restructured as the City Archive and Museum and its existence was ensured. Mesut Özok is the architect of the building, that has the effects of the 'Early Republic Period'. City Archive and Museum opened on 10 January 2004 with the works of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality; It exists as both an official institution and an extrovert urban cultural element serving the public. Considering the special interest and contribution of the late mayor, who gave great effort and support in the realization of the City Archive and Museum, the name of the institution was changed to Ahmet Piriştina City Archive and Museum with the decision of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Council dated 06.07.2004. In APIKAM, which consists of two main units, namely archive and museum, the museum unit is a unit that presents visually with the use of visual materials about the history of the city in its archive. Contributing to the urban awareness of the citizens of Izmir and presenting the visual history of the city, hosting exhibitions and various meetings about the city, as well as publishing on Izmir city culture and history are among the aims of the institution.
