Karakadı Necmettin Mosque and Madrasah

The builder of Karakadı Mosque is Karakadı Mecdettin. The mosque, located in İpekçiler Neighborhood, is also known as Kocabıyık Mosque among the locals. Also, Sultan II. Beyazıt's daughter, known as Sofu Sultan, has a waqf for Fatma Sultan Madrasa, Tire and Fota, in other words Gökçen with its current name. It is the only building group among the Tire Mosques that preserves the complex plan originally. Its mosque, madrasah, library, inn and bath are still standing. Apart from the inn adjacent to Terziler Hamam, other complex units are located in Karakadı District, which is named after him. The northern and eastern façades of this inn, named Iki Kapılı, are still standing. In the 19th century, while there were 30 rooms at the top and 16 rooms at the bottom, the other units were demolished and only the arch of the south door is standing. The courtyard of the mosque is entered through a door with marble jambs. There are madrasah rooms behind the porticos surrounding the north, west and east of the courtyard. There is a fountain in the middle of the courtyard. A ladder from the courtyard leads to the last congregation place. The Harem is the only example of the Tire Mosques with a hexagonal scheme. The minaret is a unique example. The semicircular-section bricks were lined up on top of each other and formed to form grooves between them, creating a different beauty. Written tablets reveal a beautiful composition. Moreover, since Karakadı Mecdettin is a master calligrapher, he has written Küfi writings on the mosque and especially on the minaret. The library in the south garden of the mosque has two floors and is from Bursa Kemer. According to popular legend, it is said that Timur, who spent the winter in Tire after the Ankara War, stayed in Karakadı district, performed the Friday prayer in this mosque, bathed and bathed in the bath. The library has two floors. The ground floor of this building is a mausoleum, and the upper floor is the Library building. You can go down to the tomb on the ground floor by a staircase in the east direction. The stone and brick workmanship of the library, which has a pentagonal plan, exhibits a picturesque beauty. The Karakadı Madrasa is located in the Karakadı mosque courtyard as a part of the kulliye. It is a 14th century work together with the mosque. It was restored in 1968. The tomb at the back of the Karakadı Mosque, on the other hand, has two floors. You can go down to the lower floor by stairs. The door of the pentagonal planned mausoleum has been transformed into a flamboyant shape with false masonry.
