Bakırçay Delta
Bakırçay Delta is a delta system formed in the region where Bakırçay, between Bergama and Dikili districts, flows into Çandarlı Bay. There is a lagoon and various delta formations in the area near the town of Çandarlı. A semi-open dalyan consists of sea cowpea (Salicornia sp.), plains, small sand islets, the Bakırçay River spill into the sea, a salty lagoon and agricultural areas. In the Bakırçay Delta, water and Shorebirds such as cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo), silver gull (Larus michahellis), flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) and charcoal sandbird (Calidris alpina) are seen in high numbers especially during the Winter period. During the summer period, the small terns (Sternula albifrons), swamp swallows (Glareola pratincola) and black-headed bunting (Emberiza melanocephala) are among the species that are regularly seen in the area. In addition, mid-Winter waterfowl counts are held in the delta regularly every year in the second half of January.
