Yeni Mosque

This mosque, located in the Kurtuluş District of Izmir's Tire district, was built in 1589 by the Janissary Chamberlain Behram Pasha. It is a kulliye consisting of a mosque, a madrasa, shops, a Bimarhane and a fountain. The madrasa and hospital of the building community were alive in 1914, only mosques and shops have survived to this day. It is understood from the endowment and archive records that the mosque was repaired in 1665, 1887 and 1961.

The mosque is a square-planned structure made of cut stone, and its place of worship is the largest after the Ulu Mosque in Tire. The dome covering the place of worship is provided with stalactites and Turkish triangles. In addition, the dome, which is covered with lead from the outside, is supported by buttresses.

In front of the mosque, there is a three-part narthex with a domed ceiling, with four columns. The mihrab and its pulpit are made of marble and decorated with motifs reflecting the 16th century style. The women's loge inside is made of wood on columns. It is understood from the inscription on one of the column bracelets in the last congregation place that the decorations inside the mosque were built by Kasımpaşalı Osman in 1597.

The minaret to the northwest of the mosque was damaged by lightning in the 20th century and was repaired in 1961. The minaret has a round body made of cut stone and a single balcony on a cut stone base. The tomb of the Janissary Kethüda Behram Ağa, who built the mosque, is next to Imam-i Shafi in Egypt.
