Birgi

Birgi is located in Küçük Menderes plains in Ödemiş district İzmir with its distinctive architecture where wooden and stone materials are carefully placed. Composed of historical houses and narrow streets, the history of Birgi dates back to 2000 BC. Respectively ruled under The Phrygian Civilization, Lydian Civilization, Persian Empire, Pergamon Kingdom, Roman Empire and Byzantine Empire until the Anatolian Principalities Period. It was the Capital of Aydınoğulları Principality in the 13th and 14th centuries before Ottoman rule in 1426. Birgi has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List since 2012.
