Gebekirse Lake

The 839.2 hectare area, which includes Lake Gebekirse, was declared as a Wild Life Development Area in 2006 with the approval of the Ministry. The lake is located in Selçuk district, Zeytinköy Local. In the lightly salted Gebekirse, the endangered pochard (Aythya ferina) and turtledove (Streptopelia turtur), and the pasbaş patka (Aythya nyroca), which is almost threatened, are seen. Also, bird species such as the coot (Fulica atra), crested pelican (Pelecanus crispus), little egret (Egretta garzetta), cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo) and spoonbill (Spatula clypeata) use the lake and its shores. Bird species such as the tailpecker (Oenanthe oenanthe), the black-tipped shrike (Lanius minor) and the white-eared titmouse (Poecile lugubris) can be observed in the fields around the lake. In Gebekirse Lake, water birds in mid-Winter are counted regularly every year in the second half of January. Among the mammalian wild animals around the lake, jackal (Canis aureus), fox (Vulpes vulpes) and wild boar (Sus scrofa) are among the most common creatures.
