Ege University Ethnography Museum

Known as Sirkehane (Vinegar House), the building was built at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The building, whose ownership is unknown, was transferred to the Treasury of Treasury in 1943, the rear part of the building was used as a vinegar and pickle production facility by the Agriculture Faculty's Department of Food and Fermentation Technology in the 1960s, and the front part served as a lodging. Sirkehane name comes from here. It was transferred from the treasury of finance to Ege University in 1990. The building, which has been used as a residence for many years, started its activities with the name of 'Ege University Balkans and Anatolian Clothes Museum' after the restoration completed on 22.06.2010. As a result of the application made to the Ministry of Culture, it gained the status of a private museum and continued its activities under the name of 'Ege University Ethnography Museum'.The museum is the first of its kind where a university in Turkey has opened a museum with the partnership of the Ministry of Culture. In the museum, which was opened for the preservation and promotion of the traditional culture of the Turkic world, especially the Balkans and Anatolia, a total of more than 2500 pieces such as local clothes, jewelry, accessories and musical instruments are exhibited.
