Izmir Ataturk Museum

It is a building built between 1875-1880 in neo-classical style, which consists of a mixture of Ottoman and Levantine architecture. It was built as a residence by its first owner, carpet merchant Takfor Efendi, after 9 September 1922, the Turkish army used the building as its headquarters, and when the Izmir Economy Congress convened in 1923, Atatürk carried out his personal studies here. At the end of the congress, the building was rented to Mr. Naim to be used as a hotel. On October 13, 1926, it was bought by the Izmir Municipality and presented to Atatürk. Atatürk had used the building when he came to İzmir in 1930-1934. The building, consisting of a basement, ground floor, first floor and a roof, is 852 square meters in size with a rectangular plan, a porch on the back and a courtyard. Upon Atatürk's death, the house was transferred to his sister Makbule Baysan by inheritance, Izmir Municipality expropriated the building on September 25, 1940, and the museum was opened to visit on September 11, 1941. After October 5, 1962, it was named 'Atatürk Provincial Public Library and Izmir City Atatürk Museum.' The ownership of the building was given to the Izmir Archeology Museum in 1972 and after the restoration and arrangement it was named the 'Atatürk and Ethnography Museum' After the ethnographic artifacts in the museum were moved to the new Ethnography Museum, it was opened to visitors under the name of 'Atatürk Museum' on 13 May 1988. The building became a museum in order to exhibit the traces of all these historical events told in the story of the building. The 5 square meter Uşak carpet, marble statues in the right and left niches, the large crystal mirror and the Atatürk portrait on the landing stand out as works that can be seen immediately. There are rooms on the first floor that Atatürk also used. In the meeting room, there is a roulette table with green cloth in the middle and around it, There are 12 'Cosmos' branded chairs. The bedrooms are furnished according to the fashion of that time. The study room has an oak veneer desk and a writing set used by Atatürk on it.
