The house, whose oldest registered user is the Ballian Family, is also known as the Ballian Mansion. The plaster decorations of the mansion, which was built in the second half of the 19th century, are remarkable. It was bought by Esther Marian Giraud, wife ofCharlton James Giraud from AttiliaBallian's heirs Maria, Laura, Alfred, Adelina, and Albert in 1900. WhenEstherMarianGirauddied in 1955, themansionwasleftto her childrenFriedrich, Joyce, Donald, Norman andEldon. The building, which was expropriated and purchased for Ege University in 1970, was used as lodging, Nursing School, archive and Strategy Development Department for a long time. The building was renovated in 2012 and allocated to the Paper Museum. In 2013, the museum, which received the status of 'Special Museum Affiliated to the Ministry of Culture', was established in order to introduce the place of the paper and the book in the world cultural history and to make students of all educational levels love the book. The lower floor of the building is reserved for paper and the upper floor for a book. Most of the works in the museum have been donated from individuals and organizations. On the paper floor, pieces related to the history and production of paper, especially papyrus and parchment samples, and paper art are exhibited. On the upper floor reserved for the book, there are objects related to book arts and printing techniques, especially Exlibris examples.
