Hisar Mosque Fountains-With-Tanks
There are two fountains with water tanks in front of Hisar Mosque; the earlier dated Evliyazade fountain-tank is in the outer yard, to left of entrance gate to main yard, and later dated Bakirci Mahmut Effendi fountain-tank is to right of it.
The epitaph on Evliyazade Fountain-tank tells us it was built by patron Ahmed Said, and later repaired by Evliyazade Ibrahim Effendi in Hegira 1293 (Gregorian 1876). Top part of this five-line epitaph features decorative curvy leaves on top side, and date and signature of epitaph calligraphist.
According to its epitaph, Bakirci Mahmut Effendi Fountain-tank was built by patron Hajji Mahmud Effendi, son of Bakirci Mahmut Effendi, in Hegira 1300 (Gregorian 9 April 1883). With an endowment dated Muharrem 1301 (November 1883), Hajji Mahmud Effendi ensured to allocate some water to his fountain-tank from the waters delivered to Izmir by Grand Vizier Kopruluzade Fazil Ahmet Pasha. Eight-line epitaph of this fountain is decorated with curvy abstract leaves at the corners.
Octagonal water tank has sixteen parts separated with glass panels, and covered on top with a metal cone crested with crescent & star on top. Both fountain tanks have similar structure. Both are built from marble, and both are still in use.
