Kadifekale

Kadifekale is the area where the city was re-established in Pagos (Kadife Mountain), except for the old Izmir (Smyrna). Founded in the 4th century BC, the city has ruins from the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods, which have survived to this day. Kadifekale is located in the south of the city on a 186 meters high hill.
It is rumored that Amazon women living in Kadifekale, formerly known as Pagos, descended from the slopes of the mountain and continued their dominance here for many years. The fortress was built by Lymachos, one of the generals of Alexander the Great. Remains of this period are also found today. Cisterns from the Byzantine period are also found. From Kadifekale, only 5 towers to the west of the castle and a part of its walls to the south remain.

There is a cistern and the ruins of a mosque inside the fortress. Today, this historical place is tried to be revitalized. Pagos Producers Market is set up every Saturday, where women's cooperatives sell their products. Music recitals accompany the market.
