Yabets Synagogue
The two-storey building in the alternative wall technique was built for Jewish citizens living in Bergama. Rectangular planned synagogue is reached from the podium on the east facade. Bema has a rich still life decoration. Wooden ornaments have baroque features, the floor is furnished with black and white marble.
The history
With the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, most of the Jews living in Bergama immigrated. The building, which started to be abandoned since this date, was used as a warehouse for a while. After the fire, its roof collapsed and became ruined. Architectural projects were prepared in 2006. The synagogue was restored by Bergama Municipality in 2012 and was re-functionalized.
