Kültürpark

Kültürpark was established in 1936 on an area of 360,000 m2, which was destroyed in the 1922 Izmir fire. The 9 September Fair, the first of which was held in 1933, was established in the area behind Cumhuriyet Square, in an area that was expanded three years later and reached a size of 420,000 m2. Deputy Mayor of the time, Suat Yurtkoru, presented his opinion to the Mayor Behçet Uz that the fairground would not be sufficient in the future and that an area such as Gorky Park, which he saw and was affected by during his Moscow trip, to the city, and the report prepared by Yurtkoru on May 14, 1934. Approval is given for the construction of Kültürpark. Many plant species, whose homeland is America, Europe and the Far East, are located in Kültürpark flora. Kültürpark is an arboretum because it contains plants from many different geographies. In the park, the dominance of pine (Pinus) species consisting of red pine (P.brutia) and pistachio pine (P.pinea) is observed in general. There is Palm (Washingtonia spp.) at the main entrances, and pine (Pinus spp.) and mulberry (Morus spp.) on the side roads. Forest ivy (Hedera helix) was used for greening the ground in wooded areas. The green area in the middle of a metropolitan city like Izmir is of great importance for other living beings. It acts as a corridor between Natural Areas and provides a resting opportunity for migrating songbirds. In addition, it is very easy to observe green parrots (Psittacula krameri) and crocus (Acridotheres tristi), which are among the exotic bird species, in the area.
