İzmir School of the Deaf (Konak Nevvar Salih İşgören Hotel Management and Tourism Vocational High School)
The school building, which was built as an Italian Hospital in the 1800s, in the Alsancak district of Izmir, right next to the indoor sports hall, served as a school for the Deaf and Mute in the Republican period. When the school building became unusable, it remained empty for a while. In 1995, the philanthropist Mr. Salih İŞGÖREN restored the building and opened to education in 1996 as Konak Nevvar Salih İşgören Anatolian Hotel Management and Tourism Vocational High School. Since the A-B-D blocks of the school are considered as historical artifacts, no changes can be made. For this reason, school buildings became insufficient for education over time. Due to this inadequacy in the use of the buildings, additional classrooms were built in the C block in 2001. Today, A block workshops, B and C blocks are used as classrooms, D block is used as application hotel and E block is used as practice restaurant. In our school with 17 classrooms, there are 3 Workshops (Kitchen Service, Bar), 1 computer class, a school library, a sports room, a multi-purpose hall, two teachers' rooms, a counseling service room, 2 officer rooms, 4 executive rooms and two directors' rooms.
