Katipzade (Ahmet Resit Effendi) Mosque

Katipzade Mosque was built in mid 18th century by patron Hajji Ahmet Resit Effendi, father of Professor Hajji Osman Effendi, from renowned Katipzade family of Izmir. A document from 1762 shows that, in addition to this mosque, Hajji Ahmet Resit Effendi built numerous charity buildings, including madrasahs, public fountains, and teachers' training schools all around Izmir.

This mosque with no yard around is built entirely with stones. There are shops at ground floor, and mosque can be accessed climbing the stairs with 23 steep steps. Entrance gate has an arch on top, and the space between the gate and arch is decorated with a fan motif. This completely plastered building is covered with a roof with tiles.

There is a charity stone at the entrance of the mosque, which probably has been there for hundreds of years, representing the solidarity culture of old days. Despite having lost its authenticity and original purpose, Misirlizade Hajji Mustafa Effendi Fountain can be a point of interest as well.
