Ministry of Culture and Tourism Izmir Painting and Sculpture Museum and Gallery
The museum building was designed in 1967 in collaboration with architect Muhlis Türkmen and Inal Görel. Opened as a gallery in Kültürpark on September 9, 1952, the museum reached its currentshape with the efforts of the artist Turgut Pura, who was the director, in 1973 when it moved to its new building in Konak. The museum exhibits outstanding examples of plastic arts from Tanzimat to the present. It presents world plastic art works to artists and the public and aims to introduce Turkish and world plastic art and works. Among the works in the museum collection, there are works by various artists such as Şeker Ahmet Pasha, Hoca Ali Rıza, Hikmet Onat, İbrahim Çallı, Kuzgun Acar, and Nurettin Ergüven. It is possible to see the cultural richness brought to Izmir by museums or permanent exhibitions established within the body of universities or local governments, also in this museum. The museum, established with the works of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, General Directorate of Fine Arts, closes an important gap in its field. Thanks to the new artworks to be added here in the future, it is aimed to enrich this museum even more and thus to become a center of attraction in terms of Turkish painting art.
