A Day Full of History

A Day Full of History

There are many historical buildings that deserve to be seen in the center of İzmir.

Autumn in İzmir

İzmir is one of the most beautiful coastal cities in the world, which means the autumn in the city celebrates the end of the languor of the summer. The city awakens with music and art, its streets are covered with the smell of coffee, and nature embraces its new colors while the migratory birds say goodbye.

The autumn in İzmir doesn’t mean melancholy, on the contrary, it’s an invitation to a romantic adventure. Whether you are an adventurous traveler or just after a relaxed pleasant weekend, you can find both in İzmir in this season.

With the return of its residents from their summer houses, İzmir livens up a little more. The streets come to life. Gatherings for food, a concert or a play become popular again. İzmir has this atmosphere that makes you feel you have been a part of the city forever.

It’s also a city where the locals are the most frequent visitors to its museums, art galleries, and public mansions. That’s why these buildings are alive throughout the year.

Since the shopkeepers don’t have any difficulties to find customers in the winter, they don’t feel the need to rip off their customers in the summer! In İzmir, everything feels like exactly how it’s supposed to be. That makes you feel like you’re lucky to witness all these. Just like a movie which you feel a part of and you can’t get enough to watch.

Traveling Souls

The autumn in İzmir lets you experience contradictory things on the same day. For example, you can sunbathe a few hours before walking in the rain.

In Konak, the heart of the city, you can visit dozens of historical places, museums, art galleries, mosques, churches, chapels, inns, bazaars, and many places. with amazing views. You can have fun in the giant amusement park which is an iconic part of Fuar İzmir, you can relax on the Sevgi Yolu, and watch the sunset from the Historical Elevator.

You’re not allowed to say that you’ve visited İzmir unless you take a ferry from Karşıyaka, Bostanlı, Pasaport, Alsancak, Göztepe or Konak, and have boyoz, egg, and tea on the ferry. This is the best way to turn your trip into a foodie’s experience.

Here’s a list of a few special places to visit. Keep in mind that this is only a fraction of what İzmir offers you.

  • İzmir Clock Tower
  • Kemeraltı

Çiçekliköy and the joy of breakfast

If you’ve already experienced the foam on the coffee and the old book smell in the second-hand booksellers, it’s time to talk about a few places in İzmir where you can enjoy the best breakfast this autumn, the season when nature dresses up.

Çiçekliköy is a natural wonder in Bornova, half an hour away from the city center. Its fresh air, pine trees, breakfast places adorned with natural products make Çiçekliköy an ideal destination for daily visits. Here you can also enjoy horse riding, cycling, and hiking.

There are other similar places you can try near Çiçekliköy as well, such as Yakaköy, Çamiçi, Eğridere, Karaçam, Kayadibi, Kavaklıdere, Kurudere, and Sarnıç.

Amazing Scenery

Here are three places to watch the magical view of İzmir shedding its leaves: The Historical Elevator.

The history of this structure is as interesting as itself. Here is its story: It’s 1907. We’re in Karataş. There is an altitude difference of 58 meters between the Mithatpaşa and Halil Rıfat Paşa regions in Karataş and people have to use 155 steps to access one from another. When a family friend breaks his foot, Nesim Levi Bayraklıoğlu decides to have an elevator built instead of these stairs. The elevator was built with the latest technology of its time and it can operate both on electricity and steam.

The elevator now belongs to İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. It was opened to tourism in 1992. If you want to watch a beautiful harbor city from above, we can say that this 100-year-old building is the perfect place with its cafes, bars, and restaurants.

Seyirtepe

Located in Karşıyaka, Seyirtepe is a pleasant and peaceful place where you can watch a magnificent Gulf landscape from a bird's eye view. It has also playgrounds for children.

World Peace Memorial

The memorial is located in Karşıyaka. It’s the perfect spot to take panoramic photographs of the unique Gulf scenery.
