The history of this structure is as interesting as itself. Here is its story: It’s 1907. We’re in Karataş. There is an altitude difference of 58 meters between the Mithatpaşa and Halil Rıfat Paşa regions in Karataş and people have to use 155 steps to access one from another. When a family friend breaks his foot, Nesim Levi Bayraklıoğlu decides to have an elevator built instead of these stairs.
