Best 5 Spot to Watch the Stars in Izmir

Here are 5 spots where you can watch the stars on clear nights in Izmir.

1. The Historical Elevator

The Historical Elevator is one of the places where both day and night landscapes can be enjoyed in Izmir.

If you go to the Historical Elevator, which can be reached via both Mithatpaşa Street and Halil Rıfat Paşa Street, just before the sun sets, you can first take a panoramic picture of the city and then have a meal at the restaurant here with the sunset and watch the stars after the dark.

2. Seyirtepe

You can go to Seyirtepe, which is located in Bayraklı, on the road to Örnekköy National Park, by shuttles departing from Karşıyaka and Konak.

You can have dinner at the restaurant in Seyirtepe and take a photo of the wonderful view.

Just like the Historical Elevator, a starry night awaits you in Seyirtepe after the sun goes down too.

3. Karagöl Recreation Area

Located in Karşıyaka district, up in the Yamanlar Mountains which have made a name with the legend of Tantalus, this area is 26 kilometers from Izmir.

You can stay in your tent in the Karagöl Recreation Area, which is famous not only for its crater lake but also for its stars in the night sky.

The recreation area has toilets, a snack stand, picnic units, electricity, drinking, and utility water.

4. Gümüldür Recreational Area

Located in Menderes district, in the town of Gümüldür, the distance of this recreation area to Izmir is 75 kilometers. This means, when you stay here, you are far away from the lights of the city and thus the stars in the sky can be seen more clearly.

There is a country club, entertainment area, a snack stand, toilets, picnic units, and a tent area. Equipped with electricity, drinking, and utility water, the Gümüldür recreation area has a daily visitor capacity of 2,500 people and a tent capacity of 300.

5. Sarpıncık Lighthouse

Let's end our list with a very unknown address. If you have your own car or if you have rented one, we recommend you to stop by the lighthouse in Karaburun’s Sarpıncık on a clear night.

12 km further the Yeni Iskele in the center of Karaburun, you can reach the village of Sarpıncık first, when you approach the tip of the peninsula, then climb to the hills and descend from the dirt paths by following the Sarpıncık Lighthouse signs. Here, while watching the stars, the smell of the sea and the Aegean breeze will accompany you.
