Best Places to Enjoy the Sea in İzmir

Thanks to its total coastal length of 629 kilometers, İzmir has countless beaches, 49 of which are blue-flagged. Here are the top 5 destinations in İzmir where you can enjoy the sun, sand, and sea.

The first address that comes to mind when talking about enjoying the sea in İzmir is Çeşme, of course. There are numerous beautiful beaches in Çeşme, where both residents of İzmir and its visitors prefer for a weekend getaway or a longer vacation.

With its clear sea, sun, fine sand, and sulfurous healing waters boiling in the sea, the Çeşme peninsula has a coast of 29 kilometers. Among the 20 beaches of Çeşme, we recommend you to start with Aya Yorgi Bay.

Resembling a pool thanks to its turquoise sea, Aya Yorgi Bay is among the most popular and most preferred bays of Çeşme. It has a warmer and saltier sea compared to other areas. Visitors can enjoy the sea during the day and have fun afterward in the beach clubs which are open until very late at night.

In Çeşme, you can also visit Tekke Bay Beach, Pırlanta (Diamond) Beach, Altınkum Beach, Alaçatı Piyade Bay, Ilıca Beach, Çark Beach, Grand Harbor (Paşa Limanı) Beach, Alaçatı Port Area, Kocakarı Beach, Boyalık Bay, Sakızlıkoy (Sakızlı Bay), and Deliklikoy (Delikli Bay).

Just like Çeşme, Dikili is also famous for its beaches. Here, the total length of the beaches exceeds 40 kilometers. Moreover, after enjoying the sea in Dikili, you can watch one of the most beautiful sunset views in the world.

Çandarlı is the most famous beach in Dikili. In Çandarlı Kale Önü Public Beach, the seawater temperature is a few degrees lower compared to the southern beaches. Thus, even in the most sweltering months of summer, Çandarlı continues to offer its guests a complete sea pleasure.

The other beaches in Dikili are Deçemko Holiday Village, Dikili Municipality Beach (Dikili Blue Flag Beach), Kayra Beach Club, and Kalem Island Oliviera Resort.

The biggest advantage that Foça has is that it offers the experiences of exploring a charming district and wonderful beaches together. The Mersinaki coves with unequaled beaches between Eski Foça and Yeni Foça, the old windmills, the steep cliffs, pristine hotels, small charming pensions, and lovely fish restaurants lined up on the Küçükdeniz shore are all waiting for you in this cute district.

There are 5 blue flagged beaches in Foça: Yeni Foça Public Beach, Foça Municipality Karakum Beach, Voodoo Beach Club, Mark Warner Hotel Phokaia, Hanedan Beach Club.

The Karaburun Peninsula is an indispensable vacation destination thanks to its clean sea, diving spots, areas for line fishing and boat rides, untapped and peaceful bays, beaches, amazing panoramas, cool breeze during the summer, almost no humidity, tasty sea dishes, and local restaurants.

Karaburun has 3 blue flagged beaches: Bodrum Beach, Akvaryum Beach (İncirliköy Beach), and Kuyucak Beach. However, the main reason that makes this natural wonder peninsula an ideal route is the fact that some of its beaches have managed to remain untouched because they don’t even have a highway connection and they are waiting to be discovered. If you want to stay away from the crowd and discover these hidden treasures yourself, you should definitely see the coastline of Karaburun.

When you are in Seferihisar, you won’t be able to decide easily whether to spend your time enjoying the district itself or its unique beaches, just like Foça. Seferihisar has a 49 km coastline that contains many beaches and bays, each more beautiful than the other. 9 of those beaches are blue flagged.

The most famous beach in Seferihisar is the Büyük Akkum Beach. The other beaches that have blue flags are as follows: Bahadır Public Beach, Gemisuyu Public Beach, Doğanbey Sakız Ağacı Public Beach, Doğanbey Havacılar Beach, Ömür Beach, Ürkmez Medical Center Beach, Bengiler Public Beach, and Euphoria Aegean Resort Hotel.

In addition to these beaches, you can swim in the virgin bays of Seferihisar by taking boat tours departing daily from Sığacık Port.

The beaches where you can enjoy the clear sea in Menderes with its 43 km coastline are located in two neighborhoods: Özdere and Gümüldür.

Özdere, one of the most popular tourist destinations in İzmir is worth seeing with its blue flagged beaches, beautiful bays, nature that brings blue and green together, and climate. It has a 30-km coastline including the Ahmetbeyli site. One of the advantages of Özdere is the ease of transportation since it's just 7 kilometers away from İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport. Aside from its magnificent sea, it also has camping and picnic areas. These characteristics make Özdere a perfect destination for daily holidays and weekend getaways.

After visiting Özdere, don’t forget to discover Gümüldür. The land of Satsuma with the great smell, Gümüldür combines the green with the blue. With a 7 kilometer coastline, blue flagged beaches, and hotels that cater for all budgets, it is one of the towns where the sea tourism is blooming.

Bonus: Urla and Pamucak

We have promised to list the 5 top destinations in İzmir that you can enjoy the sun, sand, and sea, we just can’t allow Urla and Pamucak to be unlisted. In Urla, the blue flagged Kum Denizi Beach is very famous. Çeşmealtı, Yassıcaada, and Klizman are also very popular destinations. Pamucak Beach, on the other hand, has a length of nearly 5 kilometers and a width of up to 80 meters. And it is only 6 kilometers from Ephesus Ancient City!
