Ferries of İzmir: See İzmir from the Sea

Visiting the world-famous beaches is not the only way to enjoy the sea in Izmir. The ferries of İzmir also offer you a peaceful time, even with the shortest journey.

One of the countless beauties that make İzmir an ideal route for those who say “I cannot live without the sea” are the ferries. You can travel between many districts on the Aegean shore in İzmir by ferry to save time and rest your soul with a wonderful view.

One of the first lines that come to mind to enjoy the ferries in İzmir is the Alsancak-Karşıya line, which connects the two most popular districts of the city. Before taking this pleasant journey, you can first spend some time in Alsancak starting from Konak Pier. You can walk through the famous Kordonboyu, from the Passport Pier to the Stock Exchange Palace, the Clock Tower, the Cyprus Martyrs’ Street, and then reach Alsancak Ferry Port. If it’s summer, you can come across one of the concerts organized in the evening in front of the Alsancak Ferry Port. Of course, do not forget to buy a bagel (simit) to share with the seagulls that will accompany your journey to Karşıyaka.

You can drink tea with your bagel on your journey to Karşıyaka and feel refreshed with the cool air of the Gulf. If you look to where your ferry departed from, you will see that the buildings on the seaside resemble a Turkish movie from the 70s, and you will be amazed at how İzmir still managed to preserve its old texture despite its modern character. Moreover, if you hop on the ferry just before the sunset, you will have the opportunity to watch that unique sunset view of the Gulf from the most beautiful spot!

When you arrive in Karşıyaka, you can start visiting the district from its bazaar. The bazaar, which is located across the Karşıyaka Pier, is one of the busiest places in the district. You will feel the texture of the city while visiting the bazaar where there are cafes, bookstores, and restaurants, as well as other shops that will meet all your needs. Bostanlı, which you can easily reach by minibusses or taxis from the pier, is one of the best places you have dinner in meat and fish restaurants.

Of course, the Alsancak-Karşıyaka is not the only ferry line to enjoy in İzmir. You can see İzmir from the sea and arrive your next destination in a fast and practical way by jumping on one of the ferries that operate between Alsancak, Bostanlı, Foça, Göztepe, Güzelbahçe, Quarantine Island, Karşıyaka, Konak, Mordoğan, Urla, and Üçkuyular piers.
