Fizzy Drinks of Izmir
Although the local fizzy drinks are not as common as they used to be in Turkey, Izmir still continues with this tradition. Here are the local fizzy drinks of Izmir.
Local sodas and fizzy drinks are still served in the traditional coffee shops or buffets in Turkey. The locals of each city are familiar and fond of consuming these sodas produced with the clean water of the region and offer them to their guests. However, not all of these local brands are able to cope with the harsh competition conditions and survive.
The situation in Izmir is a little different, though, because Izmir protects its fizzy drink tradition just like many other local values.
For example, in the "Eskici Kahveci Gazozcu Münire" café in Alsancak, it is possible to find 25 leading soda brands of Izmir and the Aegean.
Dört Mevsim (Four Seasons) is one of the most esteemed and well-known sodas of Izmir. Founded by Hüseyin Karakuş in 1930, Dört Mevsim is an Akhisar brand. The management of the brand is now transferred to the third generation Burçin and Berk Karakuş brothers, the descendants of the late Hüseyin Karakuş.
Su-Ga, or formerly known as Imren, is another of Izmir's oldest soda brands. Its founder is Nurettin Özertuğrul, who died in 2014 and was known as the "Father of Soda". He had inherited the business from his father. During the Ottoman period, Özertuğrul's father and two uncles were producing soda under the name Zülfikar Brothers.
