A Day Full of History

There are many historical buildings that deserve to be seen in the center of İzmir.

Beit Hillel Synagogue

Beit Hillel Synagogue

Located in Kemeraltı, near Synagogue Street, Beit Hillel Synagogue served in the past as the home of the Palache family, a family of famous rabbis who were active in İzmir. The synagogue was founded in 1840 by the Palache family. Rabbi Haim Palache and his son, Rabbi Avraham Palache led the community for many years. In the 19th century, Rabbi Avraham Palache founded in his home a synagogue named Beit Hillel, after the philanthropist from Bucharest who supported the publication of Rabbi Palache's books.
